PURIFYING YOUR SOUL

TEXT: Seeing ye have purified your souls in obeying the truth through the Spirit unto unfeigned love of the brethren, see that ye love one another with a pure heart fervently (1 Peter 1vs22)

MESSAGE

Purification is a process or a state of being cleansed. Someone who is yet to surrender himself/herself to Christ can not experience purification. Why? This is because it is done by the assistance of the Holy Spirit in a man. The soul is the mind. Our soul/mind is often engaged every second - many thoughts and activities run through our minds. It is therefore important for believers to get purified everyday. When we fail or refuse to purify our mind/soul, we give the devil full chance to manipulate us. Thus, Apostle Paul beseeched us in Romans 12vs2 to renew (that is to purify) our mind always, by this only we can become transformed daily into the perfect image of God.

Why must we purify our soul daily?

1. The world is full of darkness

2. Our environment is polluted

3. There is wickedness everywhere (wickedness is contagious, so we need to prevent our wickedness from gaining entrance into our mind).

4. For our edification

5. To meet God's standard and expectation. God said we should be holy because He is holy (Leviticus 11vs45)

6. For smooth and uninterrupted relationship between us and God

7. To reign with Christ in Heaven (Matthew 5vs8)

HOW CAN WE BE PURIFIED?

We can deduce from our bible text - 1 Peter 1vs22 that the only way we can be purified is by obeying the truth (word of God). It is not enough to receive the word of God, it is not enough read and study the word of God, it is however most important to obey the word of God. If you are given water to bathe your body and you failed to use the water, there can never be cleansing of your body until you use the water as instructed. In the same way we need to obey the word of God that we read and study every time. It is by this our soul can get purified.

POINT TO NOTE: The word of God is the only purifying agent that w can use daily to purify ourselves and prevent us from any form of perversion and pollution (Psalm 119vs9).

ACTION POINT: Purify your mind daily by acting out the directives of the Holy Spirit via the word of God.
