A POOR MAN

TEXT: He that loveth pleasure shall be a poor man: he that loveth wine and oil shall not be rich (Proverbs 21vs17)

MESSAGE

Different people with different mindsets. When anyone mentions "a poor man", what often comes first to one's mind is "lack of finance." There are a several poverty states or categories - economical poverty, material poverty, moral poverty, marital poverty, psychological poverty, etc. In a nutshell, lack of anything is poverty of that area of wants. However, no matter the category of poverty one may belong to, when someone is spiritually poor (spiritual poverty), such person needs an earnest assistance by the spiritually rich brethren.

Spiritual poverty refers to a state of lack of spiritual riches/wealth. Spiritual riches/wealth includes fellowshipping with the Holy Spirit, divine anointing, divine gift, divine connectivity, divine sensitivity, divine understanding, divine wisdom, divine knowledge, revelational knowledge, among many others. What causes spiritual poverty? Our Bible Text points to us one of the reasons many are spiritually poor.

PLEASURE. In this context, pleasure refers to pleasuring activities that are not edifying to our spirit-man. I have seen Christians that can watch movies and can 'play games on the sea or water, if they are permitted' - that's the level at which they love watching movies and playing games. Different people with different things or activities that gives them pleasures. The scripture affirms that such people (those who loves and are sold out to pleasures) are poor.

Beloved, if as a spiritually rich person, you give or sell yourself to pleasure, you will certainly lose divine connectivity. I believe you know the story of Samson. He sold himself to pleasure which made him to lack divine revelation, connectivity, sensitivity, etc. Thus, he became a prey in the hands of his enemies, the Philistines. Spiritual poverty makes the so-called Christians to be at the mercy of false prophets/preachers (falsehoods).

POINT TO NOTE: Selling yourself to PLEASURE will only degenerate your spiritual riches and make you poor.

ACTION POINT: Abstain from things or activities that does not edify your spirit-man - anything that gets you disconnected from divine guidance, revelation, sensitivity and connectivity.
